- Teacher: Lori Van Liere
Every class of students is highly diverse and maximizing this diversity is vital to creating an effective and engaging learning environment for every student. Students learn differently, have different cultural "lenses" (schema) through which their understanding of life and learning is passed. While teachers do not represent or even fully understand every difference represented in a group of students, they can learn how to create interesting and engaging environments that facilitate the learning for every student. This module will address these strategies and approaches to teaching and learning.
Designing instruction that meets learning outcomes is both purposeful and measurable. This module will address the importance of using helpful measuring "verbs" in planning instruction and also the use of various tools such as rubrics and concepts maps to plan instructional activities and summative exams that fully measure the learning that has taken place. These tools surround standards-based tests so that general and critical learning can take place while pre-set standards are still being met.
